Small Forward – Rudy Gay
This has been a position of need for this team ever since Corey Maggette left. Matt Barnes did his best but I don’t think any of us really thought of him as a permanent fix for this position and this season there isn’t one either. When Griffin is healthy, Luc Mbah a Moute has been playing this spot for his defensive prowess. Personally, I love the effort Mbah a Moute shows on every play he’s out there, particularly on the defensive end. But he isn’t the long-term answer either. Who is?
Rudy Gay. Over the years Clipper fans have become all too familiar with the current Sacramento King and former Memphis Grizzly. Gay has some amazing career averages and his game would fit all too well for the Clippers at this point in his career. His athleticism, scoring and defensive abilities make him a forward that should leave Clipper fans drooling at the thought of having him alongside our other key starters. The only question is, who would have to go to accommodate the 29 year-old? His current contract has him making $12.4 million this season and with a few more years left on that deal the only way the Clippers could afford to bring him in would be to ship somebody with a big enough contract out. Lance Stephenson at $9 Million this year and another low-level piece would be ideal but unless Doc all of the sudden has become an expert negotiator or best friends with Vlade Divac I don’t see Sacramento agreeing to that trade.
