Shooting Guard – Courtney Lee
Again, talk about a starter that has been tearing it up. J.J. Redick is shooting a “redickulous” (see what I did there?) three point percentage of 47% this season. That’s helped him tie his career-high in points with last season’s at 16.4 ppg. What needs fixing here? Jamal Crawford is behind him and the two-time sixth man of the year award winner isn’t slouching himself. However many Clipper faithful don’t appreciate Crawford’s free-firing style that has landed the team in hot water on a number of different occasions. Plus in his final year of contract, the 35 year old may be on his way out anyway.
The team really needs a “three and d” guy here. Somebody who can come in off the bench, fit the offensive scheme and add to that with solid defense on the other end of the floor. I’m a huge fan of the Memphis Grizzlies’ Courtney Lee here. Lee and Crawford’s contracts are well identical. So a straight up trade wouldn’t hurt either team eventually. The main difference being, Lee can play defense. He’s hauling in 1 steal a game for Memphis this season which isn’t exactly an earth shattering number but alongside Crawford’s defense effort the difference would be noticeable. Also Lee would fit the need of a “three and d” guy as he would play the system and take only open shots, rather than hoisting up anything that came his way.
