Clippers Threatened By Spurs Interest In Chris Paul?
- Updated: May 26, 2017
According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, the Los Angeles Clippers are taking threat of San Antonio Spurs’ pursuit of Chris Paul very seriously.
The Clippers, I’m told, take the threat of a Spurs free-agent pursuit of Chris Paul very seriously despite SA’s current lack of cap space.

The Clippers will enter the biggest free agency period in franchise history when July 1st rolls around. Superstars Blake Griffin and Paul will both become unrestricted free agents and test the market. Marreese Speights as already declared for free agency and J.J. Redick is looking for a major payoff.
Clipper Nation as well as front office staff have made it clear that they would like to bring everyone back but if they had to choose at the very least they would like Paul and Griffin back in the red, white, and blue. The only problem is does Paul want the same thing?
Paul is one of the best point guards in the league today and certainly a future Hall of Famer, but we all know the one thing that everyone says about Paul. He has failed to win a championship and for that matter make the Western Conference. Could he be intrigued with the idea of joining Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge?
The Spurs do not currently have the cap space to sign Paul right now with their current roster situation but one would think if Paul was indeed interested they would move mountains to bring him on board. Does a team of CP3, Kawhi, and Aldridge fair better against the loaded Golden State Warriors in the West? What about Tony Parker?
There is a lot of questions out there about this situation but one thing is certain. NBA executives do not sleep at the idea of the Spurs signing a big name free agent. Remember they proved everyone wrong when Aldridge signed.
