Clippers Streak Continues With 113-105 Win

Clippers

Coming into the game with three straight wins the Los Angeles Clippers took on the rival Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday night at Staples Center.

This was the third matchup between the teams with Memphis winning the first two. To make matters worse for Los Angeles it was reported just before tipoff that Austin Rivers would not be available due to a right achilles injury and the team is not sure when he will return.

The loss of Rivers wasn’t felt much early on however as two-way player CJ Williams stepped up in the guard’s absence. With the 45 days running out on his NBA contract, Williams stormed out to 12 points in just the first quarter. Williams had the best game of his rookie season so far with a career-high 18 points on the night. Blake Griffin also helped by taking control of his team out of the gate with 9 points in the opening quarter. Griffin flirted with a triple-double by the time his night was through getting 21 points to go along with 8 assists and 6 rebounds.

Not all went smoothly for Los Angeles early though. The Grizzlies offense was sizzling for the entire first half shooting 61% from the field and 80% from three to end the first quarter. By the time the game ended the Clippers defense was able to take those percentages down to 49% and 32% respectively but it took halftime for Memphis to cool off.

The third quarter was a disaster for Los Angeles. The team had more turnovers (8) than made field goals (7) and only managed to score 19 points. Luckily for the Clippers, the Grizzlies struggled to put points on the board as well only managing 22 points in the quarter despite forcing all of those turnovers.

The fourth quarter saw a dramatic swing of momentum in Los Angeles’ favor. Led by Lou Williams, the Clippers were able break away from the Grizzlies thanks to the sixth man dropping in 11 points off the bench in the quarter alone. Williams finished with 33 for the game to go along with 6 assists.

Despite a late push by Memphis, a scoring frenzy by Griffin to close out the final quarter helped Los Angeles finish this game off and get a 113-105 victory for their fourth straight victory.

With tough competition on the horizon like the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday and the Golden State Warriors on Saturday this 4-game winning streak couldn’t have come at a better time for the Clippers.
