Clippers Match Offer Sheet For Tyrone Wallace
- Updated: September 5, 2018
On Tuesday the New Orleans Pelicans offered a two-year contract to Los Angeles Clippers restricted Free Agent Tyrone Wallace. The second year guard out of California played his way onto the Clippers last season after signing a two-way contract with the team in January, averaging 9.7 points, 2.4 assists and .9 steals per game in limited minutes.
At 6’5″ Clippers fans became enamored with the idea of having a guard with size that could smother opposing players at the position while managing to stay fluid and composed on the offensive end as well. However with the team drafting two guards in this offseason’s NBA draft, including one that fits in that same mold in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, many feared Los Angeles would let the restricted free agent walk if a high offer came along.
On Wednesday night it seems the Clippers felt the 24 year-old showed enough promise to hold on to.

While this move undoubtedly make the team better and adds another talented young guard in to the mix, it also puts them in a bit of a precarious position. They now have 17 contracts heading into training camp with a need to get down to 15 before the start of the season. While I won’t speculate on who the Clippers will cut, I will say that Los Angeles will definitely be stacked with young talent at guard this season and this signing will be one fans love more and more as this young player progresses.
