Clippers Looked At Trading DeAndre Jordan To Houston?

The Los Angeles Clippers have had one of the most interesting 12 months in the NBA. A year ago things felt normal… DeAndre Jordan, Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin were going to lead this Clipper team to the promise land.

Obviously, thing changed this summer with the exit of Paul, but Zach Lowe of ESPN.com reported that the breakup of the LAC big three almost came sooner. Below is an excerpt from his article. You can read the full article here.

“The Clippers have explored DeAndre Jordan trades, though perhaps only one proposal — a deal which would have sent Jordan to Houston at last season’s trade deadline for Clint Capela, picks and players — ever gained semiserious traction, league sources say.”

If you play the what if game what does that trade do for the Clips? For one it opens up some salary cap flexibility. One of the biggest issues with Jordan is the organization deciding which direction they want to go in. Jordan is an All-Star, an All-NBA, and All-Defensive team player in the league. But does the club want to pay him up to $35 million dollars a year to keep an aging big who isn’t able to stretch the floor?

By trading Jordan and getting a few assets the Clippers who still be able to be competitive but have a little more flexibility going forward. Would I have done the deal? No. But I can see why Doc Rivers listened and explored last season.

For Clipper fans’ Lowe’s article provides some more insight into the club. Check it out and let us know what you think!
