Clippers Send Lawler Off In Style, Warriors Await

Clippers

The LA Clippers knew two things for sure coming into Wednesday’s regular season finale against the Utah Jazz. One, they’ll be facing off against the Warriors in round one of the playoffs with the 8th seed locked up just prior to tipoff. Second, that this game would be the emotional farewell for longtime broadcaster Ralph Lawler.

Wins by the Spurs and Thunder earlier in the night sealed the Clippers fate and matchup for the playoffs. The vaunted Golden State Warriors will await them in the opening round and the defending champs are the runaway favorites to win it all yet again.

While the results of this series likely won’t go in the Clippers favor, a matchup with one of the great teams this league has ever seen offers a great opportunity for this youthful LA squad. An opportunity to watch and learn what it takes to win at an elite level. This season was never about being a contender for a team famously projected to get just 33 wins by most critics. At this point the Clippers are playing with house money as they say, and they need to take every chance they have to pay attention and learn to improve moving forward.

While many important players will be learning the ins and outs of winning in the playoffs, one Clipper great is experiencing his last go round. After 40 years at the mic, the Clippers provided broadcaster Ralph Lawler with a tremendous send off. Lawler was able to broadcast with one of his long time partners and great friend Bill Walton, it was Ralph Lawler bobble head night and the team had a tear jerking halftime ceremony for the 80 year old to enjoy with his wife Sweet Jo in front of the sold out Staples Center.

Meanwhile the team did their best to send Lawler home happy with a Clippers victory in his final regular season game. It wound up being a nail-biter of a game that was decided in overtime with the Clippers ending up on top. This win closes out the regular season with a record of 48-34.

As a lifelong Clippers fan I along with all of us at CaliSportsNews wish you the best in this next chapter of your life. Enjoy your much deserved retirement Ralph!
