Clippers Late Run Seals 104-101 Win Over Mavs

Clippers

In their second game together the new-look Clippers would take on the struggling Dallas Mavericks in what could be a bit of a trap game. With former superstar Blake Griffin and the Pistons up next, Los Angeles may not have had all of their attention on the lowly Mavericks in this one. And it showed.

Lately, the Clippers go as Lou Williams goes. For the first time in a long while, that was a bad thing for Los Angeles Monday night. Williams shot was cold from start to finish, missing shots he typically knocks down with relative ease finishing with just 15 points on 5-15 shooting. However the guard was able to find other ways to help out his squad, most importantly dishing the ball well enough that he led the team in assists with 8.

Williams wasn’t the only Clippers star to struggle as Center DeAndre Jordan looked disinterested in what was going on in Staples Center tonight. Coach Doc Rivers stated before the game that he could see the trade rumors having an impact on some of his players lately and it was evident in Jordan. Jordan did crash the glass as usual with 13 rebounds but wasn’t able to help out in many other ways, finishing with just 6 points.

This game for Los Angeles had huge playoff implications as losses from the Blazers and Pelicans put them in the position to be just behind the 8th seed in the ultra-competitive Western Conference. Forwards Danilo Gallinari and Tobias Harris seemed to take that opportunity more seriously than some of their teammates.

Gallinari shot the lights out going 9-13 from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arc, finishing with a game-high 28 points. This game was the most comfortable Gallinari has looked in a Clippers uniform since joining in the offseason.

A much newer addition, Harris came into the team with high expectations after being the focal point of the Griffin trade and he has not yet disappointed. After having a stellar performance in his debut against the Bulls he shined again in this matchup. Harris finished with 19 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Not to mention some highlight reel dunks that brought the fans to their feet.

A back and fourth game, the Clippers made a late 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to go up. It came down to a jump ball with 4 seconds left that saw a Bradley layup seal this one. Los Angeles came out on top 104-101.

A clutch win for the Clippers that wasn’t pretty but it got the job done and put them in great position for the Western Conference playoff seeding.
