Clippers Fined $250,000 By The NBA

Just because the Clippers and DeAndre Jordan have come to an agreement, doesn’t mean that NBA is satisfied with it’s goings-ons.

Today it was announced that the Los Angeles Clippers have been fined $250, 000. The fine comes from violating the anti-circumvention rules.

The NBA writes the following:

“The NBA announced today that it has fined the Los Angeles Clippers $250,000 for violating NBA rules prohibiting teams from offering players unauthorized business or investment opportunities.

The violation involved a presentation made by the Clippers to free agent DeAndre Jordan on July 2 that improperly included a potential third-party endorsement opportunity for the player. While the NBA’s investigation ultimately concluded that the presentation of this opportunity had no impact on Jordan’s decision to re-sign with the Clippers, the team’s conduct nevertheless violated the league’s anti-circumvention rules.

The NBA’s anti-circumvention rules prohibit teams from, among other things, providing or arranging for others to provide any form of compensation to a player unless such compensation is included in a player contract or otherwise expressly permitted under the CBA.”

Apparently, the Clippers offered something to DeAndre Jordan which they technically weren’t allowed to, in an effort to entice him.

CBSSports.com writes the following:

“The reason this rule is in place because you don’t want connected business partners trying to sweeten the pot and circumvent the salary cap situations. “

Didn’t the NBA also fine Dallas for their actions prior to free agency starting? The league made a nice chunk of change off of DJ….

P.S. Don’t quite understand that name, considering I live in a suburb in the Los Angeles area. Maybe you should Google your map of Los Angeles again… just like those hockey players 😉

If you’re going to write game reviews, please spell the players’ names correctly.
