Clippers Fend Off Spurs For 106-101 Victory

Clippers

There are some matchup’s in the NBA that teams just feel confident about. It’s clear that the Clippers (22-8) feel this way when they matchup with the San Antonio Spurs (23-6).

Despite San Antonio consistently being one of the best teams in the league, Los Angeles always seems show up for their games with the 5-time champions.

ThisΒ was another one of those confident performances from the Clippers as they led throughout. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Los Angeles. After moving up on the all-time steals list superstar Point Guard Chris Paul left the game in the 3rd quarter with a hamstring strain and wouldn’t return.

Paul still ended up having a stellar night with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. However his injury is obviously troubling for a team that is already missing Forward Blake Griffin.

As he always does DeAndre Jordan stepped up in the absence of his fellow big, notching 11 points with 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. But it wasn’t just the scoresheet where Jordan stood out. It seems like Jordan gets an extra burst of energy when he plays against Spurs Forward Pau Gasol. Gasol, the former Los Angeles Laker has a history of winding up on the wrong end of Jordan’s poster dunks. Thursday night was no different.

Gasol wasn’t the only player on the floor that had an unfortunate night though.

Paul Pierce started at Power Forward in place for the injured Griffin on the night. This shouldn’t happen again. Ever. Pierce played for a total of 10 minutes with zeroes all the way across his stat-sheet. Meaning he did literally nothing while he was on the floor. Not sure if Doc Rivers still sees the Pierce he saw from his Celtics days when he looks at him but it’s time to pull the plug on the Pierce experiment, he’s done.

Despite the poor performance from Pierce the team effort from the Clippers was enough to help them pull off a 106-101 win against a Spurs team that has been a stellar 15-1 on the road this season.

A phenomenal Clipper win at home in this one but the team won’t have much time to revel in their victory as they take on the Dallas Mavericks Friday night at 7:30 PM PST back at Staples Center.

Thanks for reading along Clipper Nation! Here’s to Chris Paul being healthy and the Clippers continuing this great play for a while longer.
