Clippers Extend Doc Rivers

Clippers

According to the Clippers Public Relations department the team has signed head coach Doc Rivers to a contract extension.

The terms of the contract have not yet been released but the Clippers re-signed the coach with one year still remaining on his previous contract.

Since joining Los Angeles, the Clippers are 259-151 under Rivers’ tutelage. That’s good enough for the fifth best record in the league over that 5 year span.

Rivers is the winningest coach in franchise history, yet this move to extend the coach has been met with mixed reviews by fans. Many continue see Rivers as the General Manager/Coach although he relinquished his Management responsibilities before the start of last season after a tumultuous 4 years in the position.

His ability to focus on his coaching duties showed just what the former NBA Champion and Coach of the year coach can do when all of his energy can be poured into one position. While the Clippers struggled this last season, going 42-40 and missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season, Rivers led the team to a winning record with an NBA-high 37 different starting lineups due to injuries.

This is a great move by Owner Steve Ballmer and the Clippers, bringing back a coach that is considered to be one of the very best in the game of basketball.
