Clippers Deal Dekker To Cavs

According to reports Los Angeles Clippers Forward Sam Dekker was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday.

While it’s not the flashiest of trades, it’s a deal that will help the Clippers in the long run. The move frees up a roster space for a player that will likely receive more minutes than Dekker would’ve at the log-jammed Forward position.

Coming over from Houston in the Chris Paul trade, Dekker played just one season with the team. Playing in 73 games, Dekker averaged just 12.1 minutes while managing a meager 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. The biggest disappointment in Dekker’s game was his shooting, particularly from long range where the 24 year-old shot just 17% compared to 32% in his second season with the Rockets. That type of slide likely didn’t give the Clippers much hope he would improve in that category.

Dekker’s size and abilities made him a bit of a tweener in the league, trying to find his comfort in either the 3 or 4 spots and he never quite seemed formidable enough for the team at either. With players like Danilo Gallinari, Tobias Harris, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Wesley Johnson and Mike Scott all being in front of him in the rotation it’s easy to see why he was dealt now.

Hopefully the Clippers will be able to use the open roster spot to bring in a player at a position of greater need. Best of luck to Dekker in Cleveland and hopefully a change of scenery back to the midwest will help him change his game for the better.
