Clippers Breeze By Grizzlies 114-98

Clippers

Rivalry games often are a toss up. This Clippers versus Memphis Grizzlies series has been no different to this point in the season with Los Angeles up 2-1 heading into this matchup.

At FedEx Forum Thursday evening however, very little was up in the air. The Clippers had this one going in their favor almost right from the opening tip.

A matchup that is usually a battle on the boards between the team’s towering bigs was won easily by the Clippers. Out-rebounding Memphis by 13 by the time this game was over. DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin each hit double-digit rebounds while only Zach Randolph of the Grizzlies was able to do the same for his squad.

Randolph came off the bench for Memphis but he was by far his team’s best player on the night. The Clippers were able to get some solid play off the bench as well, particularly from their guards. Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford and Raymond Felton all scored in double-digits getting 20, 14 and 11 points respectively.

Los Angeles’ bench was able to pad those stats a bit though because the starting lineup was having their best game since the return of Griffin and Chris Paul from injury. The team was zipping the ball all over the floor to find the open shooter, pulling the Grizzlies defense out of place and causing problems all night long.

Paul closed out his night with 19 points and 7 assists. Meanwhile Griffin almost got to the triple-double mark but fell just 2 assists shy with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists.

While the Clippers controlled most of the game, it wasn’t until a huge 11-0 run in the third quarter that the team was able to pull away. The Grizzlies never caught up and Los Angeles escaped Memphis with a 114-98 victory.

A great win for Los Angeles to get back some momentum after a tough loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves last game.

The Philadelphia 76ers will be the Clippers next matchup. Taking place on Saturday back at Staples Center at 12:30 PM PST.
