Clippers Blow Past Mavericks 119-98

Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers were looking to get back in the win column after a rough matchup with the Golden State Warriors Monday, facing off against the Dallas Mavericks Thursday.

Dallas has struggled to start the year. 1-7 entering the contest, it looks like it will be a long season for basketball fans in Dallas. Thursday night at Staples Center added to their woes.

Blake Griffin had his shot dropping from the opening whistle. Griffin was 7-12 from the field and 2-4 from beyond the arc with 20 points on the night. It wasn’t just the big man’s buckets that shined. He was crashing the boards and hitting teammates for open looks racking up the stats with 6 rebounds and 7 assists on an impressive all-around performance.

Griffin held down the frontcourt but it was Austin Rivers that handled the backcourt. Rivers was continuously aggressive on the offensive end and drove in past the Dallas defense for layups all night long. Rivers has shown a great mix of interior and perimeter offense so far this season and tonight it paid off for him to the tune of 19 points on 7-12 shooting.

A massive second quarter helped Los Angeles pull away and Dallas was never able to recover. Leading by more than 20 at many points in this one, the Clippers were able to play their entire active roster in what was a blowout 119-98 victory.

A great rebound win for Los Angeles in an all-around great team performance.

The Clippers will take on the 5-3 Memphis Grizzlies for their next contest. Memphis has impressed so far this season and will be a difficult matchup for Los Angeles at Staples Center Saturday.
