Bethancourt is in his first year with the club after spending three years with the Atlanta Braves. This season with the Padres he appeared in a career high 73 games and was hitting .228.
Bethancourt has been struggling with an injury since the end of the August and with the Padres out of the playoffs they is no need to force him into the lineup.
San Diego will take on the San Francisco Giants on the road tonight.
