The San Diego Chargers made a draft day trade with the San Francisco 49ers in order to draft Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported the news via Twitter.
The #Chargers select Melvin Gordon after telling everyone they wouldn’t take a RB. They even cancelled a visit with Gordon. Then took him.

Gordon was an unanimous All-American in 2014. He also won the Jim Brown Trophy and the Big Ten offensive player of the year. He ran for 2,587 yards last season.
The Chargers looked to at depth at the position and were able to get the best running back in the country.
Skip Bayless of ESPN shared his thoughts on the move.
SD trades up to take Melvin Gordon. Not quite Gurley, but explosive. Worth the price. #SDpick. Neither of top 2 backs go to Dallas.

With all the talk of trading Philip Rivers it looks the Chargers have adding another weapon for their franchise quarterback.
