Chargers Hold On To Beat San Francisco, 29-27

Los Angeles Chargers Quarterback Philip Rivers makes history, as Chargers, beat the San Francisco 49ers, 29-27.

Rivers threw three touchdown passes for 231 yards. Rivers was able to connect with Antonio Gates in the first quarter to get the Chargers on the scoreboard to cut the lead to seven, 14-6. Austin Ekeler scored with just 0:47 on a pass from Rivers and with a successful two-point conversion the Chargers pulled within three points, 17-14.

The first half ended on a good note, Caleb Sturgis was able to connect on a 48-yard field goal as time expired to even the score at 17.

Melvin Gordon gave the Chargers the lead for good in the third quarter on a 6-yard pass from Rivers, to give the Chargers a
23-17 lead. Sturgis added two more field goals for 25 and 21 to close out the scoring but struggled to convert missing two extra points and a field goal. Gordon rushed 15 times for 104 yards for his first 100-yard game of the season.

C.J. Beathard started at quarterback for the 49ers and was greeted by a very vicious Chargers defense as they registered a sack and two interceptions.

BOLT NOTES:

Philip Rivers passed Hall of Famer John Elway (51,475) for eighth place on the all-time passing list. With 51,485 yards Rivers now only trails two current players, Ben Roethlisberger, and Eli Manning. Tight End Antonio Gates became the oldest player in NFL history to catch a touchdown pass. The future Hall of Famer now has 114 touchdowns for his career.

NEXT UP FOR THE CHARGERS:

The Chargers (2-2) will remain at home to face the Oakland Raiders (1-3), who finally got back into the win column on a late field goal in overtime over the surprising Cleveland Browns. This game is very important as the loser could drop to the basement of the AFC West, as Denver and Kansas City will square off on Monday Night Football.
