Chargers Fall To New England, 21-13

The last play of the game was an interception, as the Los Angeles Chargers fell short in New England, 21-13. The three-game winning streak is over, as Tom Brady and Patriots hold on for the win.

Melvin Gordon, who was hampered with a foot injury, sustained in the previous game in Denver look great. Gordon rushed 132 yards on 14 carries, including an 87-yard run in the first quarter to give the Chargers the early lead.

The only other great moment for the Chargers was a 24-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers to Travis Benjamin with 8:30 left in the game, to bring the team back to a five-point deficit at 18-13.

The crucial plays that turned the game for the Patriots, was a Safety in the second quarter. Travis Benjamin misplayed a punt return, muffled the catch and after fielding the ball retreated backward and was tackled in his own end-zone by New England’s Ryan Allen. This play was turning point, giving the Patriots the lead at 9-7, which they never relinquished.

BOLT NOTES:

Rivers passed for 212 yards, on 17 of 30 passes, with the one touchdown and one interception. Benjamin led all receivers with 5 receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown. The Chargers was very efficient on the ground, gaining 157 yards. The defense was able to get to Brady on three sacks by Joey Bosa, Desmond King, and Darius Philon.

NEXT UP FOR THE CHARGERS:

The team will head into their bye-week and will resume their season on November 12th in Jacksonville to take on the much improved Jaguars team. Los Angeles (3-5), will have to wait for the outcome of the Monday Night game between their rivals Denver and Kansas City, to see if they are two or three games back in the standings in the AFC West.
