Micheal Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune confirmed the news.

Mettenberger is a former sixth round pick of the Titans back in 2014. He has a 0-10 record and has thrown 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his career.
Mettenberger and Whisenhunt have history together so that is probably the reason the Chargers went out to claim the backup QB. Mettenberger and Kellen Clemens will compete to be the backup to Philip Rivers.
