Everything looked for the San Diego Chargers (0-1) when they took on the Kansas City Chiefs (1-0) in Week 1, but the club faltered late and fell 33-27 in overtime.

Kansas City got off to an early lead when Clario Santos hit a 47 yard field goal to put the Chiefs up 3-0. Melvin Gordon scored his first career touchdown on a 1 yard run to put the first points on the board for the Bolts. Josh Lambo nailed the extra point and the Bolts led 7-3 after the first quarter.

Fresh off his first career touchdown Gordon found the endzone again in the second quarter with a 6 yard run. This pushed the Chargers led to 14-3. Philip Rivers found Danny Woodhead later in the quarter for a 4 yard touchdown that pushed the Bolts lead to 21-3 at halftime.

In the second half Lambo hit a 29 yard field goal that continued to extend the lead to 24-3 and all seemed right with the world. Kansas City finally scored their first touchdown of the season in the third quarter. Alex Smith found Tyreek Hill for a 9 yard score and the Chiefs cut the lead to 24-10 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lambo hit a 28 yard field goal at the start of the fourth quarter that gave the Chargers a 27-10 lead. Smith found Jeremy Maclin for a 19 yard touchdown that trimmed the lead to 27-17.

Santos added a 33 yard field goal, and Spencer Ware rushed up the middle in the final 1:03 of the game to tie the score at 27 all.

In overtime Smith rushed for two yards and the touchdown and the Chargers fell in week 1 33-27.  For the Chiefs they mounted the largest comeback in team history.

Keenan Allen suffered an injury that may force him to miss the entire season.

San Diego will try and rebound next week when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at home.
