Chargers Beat The Titans, 43-35

The San Diego Chargers flexed the running game against the Tennessee Titans with a 43-35 win.

Defense, the running game, and no turnovers were the keys to a huge victory for the Chargers. Melvin Gordon simply outplayed his counterpart on the opposing sideline. Gordon rushed for a
career-high 196 yards on 32 carries and added another rushing touchdown. Not to mention the additional 65 yards on the four receptions.

Philip Rivers took advantage of the Titans secondary, completing 24 of 33 for 275 yards with two touchdown passes. The Chargers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, as Rivers completed a 13-yard pass to Antonio Gates. Gates scored his 108th touchdown of his career. Rivers hooked up with Tyrell Williams for a 6-yard score early in the second quarter, to extend the team’s lead to 16 points.

The Chargers defense scored twice, on a 36-yard fumble recovery by Dwight Lowery, late in the third quarter to give the team a 33-21 lead. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was frustrated all game by the Chargers defense, as he threw two interceptions. Brandon Flowers picked off Mariota on a 33-yard interception, to ice the victory for the Chargers.

BOLT NOTES:

San Diego simply ran all over the Titans, gaining 208 yards on the ground and 268 in the air. The total yards was 476-393, most of the Titans yards was through the air. Tennessee’s potent running attack was held to only 80 yards on the ground. DeMarco Murray was only held to 51-yards on 14 carries.

NEXT UP FOR THE CHARGERS:

The Miami Dolphins are the next opponent for the Chargers (4-5) in San Diego at 4:05 EST. The Dolphins (4-4) are coming off their third straight win. Miami has had a rejuvenated running game lead by Jay Ajayi who has gained over 500 yards in the past three games. San Diego’s win keeps them alive in the race for the division in the AFC West. They are now three games behind the divisional leaders the Oakland Raiders.
