Chargers Beat Jets 14-7. Playoff hopes are still alive

There’s still hope, the Los Angeles Chargers beat the New York Jets 14-7 in the Meadowlands to go one game over .500 at 8-7. The Kansas City Chiefs clinched the AFC West and now the team has an outside chance for a Wild Card berth.

Only two touchdowns needed in this game, The first was another Rivers-Gates hookup in the second quarter to give the Chargers the early lead that they never relinquished. The Jets tied the game in the third quarter on a 57-yard run by Jets running back Bilal Powell.

Melvin Gordon broke the tie with 4:57 left in the third period, on a one-yard plunge. Gordon gained 81 yards on the ground and surpassed the 1,000 yard mark for the first time in his brief career, after missing 1,000 by three yards last season.

NEXT UP FOR THE CHARGERS:

The season finale will be a New Years Eve showdown with the Oakland Raiders at home. The Chargers need some help to gain a post-season spot. Losses by Tennessee and Buffalo will give Los Angeles the eighth and final spot.
