Chargers Beat Denver 23-9, Rematch With Baltimore
- Updated: January 2, 2019
The season finale with the Denver Broncos was a success as the Los Angeles Chargers won 23-9.
Despite the loss to the Baltimore Ravens last week, the Chargers will have another chance next weekend in the AFC Wild Card round.
It wasn’t a big statical day but just enough to pick up the win. The Chargers were able to get Geno Smith to take a few snaps at Quarterback after Philip Rivers concluded his day. Rivers went 14 of 24 for 176 with one passing touchdown and two interceptions. Austin Ekeler led the ground attack with 8 rushes for 58 yards. Melvin Gordon plated and gained 42 yards on 10 carries but his longest run from scrimmage was only for 9 yards.
Mike Williams caught the only touchdown pass from Rivers as he ended the regular season with a career-high 10 touchdowns.
The Broncos ended the season with a 6-10 record and on Monday morning they fired Head Coach Vance Joseph. In a disappointing season, the Broncos can look to their rookie backfield of Phillip Linsey and Royce Freeman. Lindsey sat out this game due to injuries and Freeman led the Broncos in rushing with 17 carries for 60 yards.
PLAYOFF BOUND BOLTS:
The Chargers will return to the post-season for the first time in Los Angeles and for the first time since 2013 when they were the in San Diego. The team is 7-1 this season on the road and their next stop will be in Baltimore to avenge a week 16 loss to the Ravens. With a 12-4 record, the Chargers should be favored against the Ravens. The Playoff field is set, the road to Atlanta can be tough but the Chargers are ready to contend to a Super Bowl run.
