The Los Angeles teams did very well in their 2020 debuts as the Chargers held off the Cincinnati Bengals 16-13, and the Rams upset the Dallas Cowboys 20-17.
Mike McCarthy made his coaching debut with the Dallas Cowboys who were equipped with plenty of offensive weapons including speedy first-round draft pick CeeDee Lamb from the University Of Oklahoma. The Rams held off the Dallas despite a late interception thrown by Jared Goff. A late field goal by the
Cowboys closed the gap and the final score was 20-17.
The Chargers met the overall first-round pick, quarterback Joe Burrow from LSU. Burrow went 23 of 36 for 193 yards and one interception, but he scored the first rushing touchdown of his career, on a 23-yard run in the first quarter. Chargers kicker Mike Badgley kicked three field-goals with a 22-yard kick that broke a 13 all tie midway through the final period.
The Rams will fly to Philadelphia to face the Eagles, who were stunned by the Washington Football Team, 27-17. The Chargers will play at home in their debut at the SOFI Stadium at
Hollywood Park against the Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
