After weeks of speculations, the news has been confirmed that Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers are parting ways.
Philip Rivers will enter the free-agent market and end his 16-year stay with the San Diego / Los Angeles Chargers. The 38-year-old Rivers holds 30 passing records for the only franchise he has played for.
Rivers has the most touchdown passes for any quarterback without a Super Bowl appearance (397). He has played 235 games and started 224 straight games for the Chargers, second-most in NFL history behind Brett Farve’s 297.
This will be the first time that we could see several highly profiled quarterbacks on the market, including Tom Brady. One of the most talented quarterbacks to ever play the game, Rivers is the sixth leading passer in the history of the NFL with 59,271 passing yards. With six playoff births, The former Chargers Quarterback led the team to the AFC Championship game in 2007.
The Chargers have a bigger decision to make in the upcoming NFL Draft in April. Tyrod Taylor is now the team’s starting quarterback for now, or will the team take a rookie in the draft. Tom Brady has been rumored to be the next option for the Chargers.
