Carlos Perez hit a walk off home run and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners in a thriller 5-4. With the Angels depressingly needing a win it was none other than the rookie who came through.
Garrett Richards got the start for the Halos. He pitched 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 5. He was awarded a no decision for his performance.
On the other hand, James Paxton got the nod. He pitched 7 strong innings as well allowing 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 4 and walking 3. He was awarded a no decision as well.
Albert Pujols put the Angels on the scoreboard first with his 5th home run of the year. His 2-run shot to left brought in Kole Calhoun and the Halos held a 2-0 advantage.
In the 2nd inning Mike Zunino hit a RBI single to center. His hit brought in Logan Morrison and the Mariners cut the lead to 2-1.
The 8th inning is where the flurry of runs came. Kyle Seager hit a RBI single to right that brought in Robinson Cano. Zunino added a RBI double that brought in Seager, and Dustin Ackley hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Morrison and the Mariners led 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 8th.
Erick Aybar helped trim the lead with an RBI single that brought in Pujols. Johnny Giavotella added a single of his own to bring in Taylor Featherston and the Halos tied the game at 4.
Prez faced Dominic Leone in the 9th inning and sent a solo shot to left field that gave the Angels the much needed victory. In Prez’s first major league game he went 2-4 with the walk-off.
