Cardinals Power Past Padres 4-2

The St. Louis Cardinals powered past the San Diego Padres in game one of a double-header 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon. San Diego has now dropped two in a row.
For St.Louis Carlos Martinez got the start. He pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 5 and walked one as he picked up his 9th win of the year.
On the other Colin Rea got the start. He pitched 6 innings allowing 8 hits and 4 runs. He walked 3 and struck out 2 but also allowed 3 home runs.
San Diego got off to a hot start in the first inning. Ryan Schimpf hit his 6th home run of the year, a two-run shot that brought in Travis Jankowski and the Padres led 2-0.
In the bottom of the second inning Matt Holliday put the Cardinals on the board with a solo shot. For Holiday it was his 17th of the year and trimmed the lead to 2-1.
Jedd Gyorko hit a two-run shot in the 4th inning for the Cards. For Gyorko it was his 9th home run of the year and brought in Matt Adams and gave St.Louis a 3-2 lead.
Yadier Molina hit a solo shot of his own in the 6th inning to push the lead to 4-2. Seung Hwan Oh came on in the 9th inning for St.Louis and struck out two batters on his way to his third save of the year.
San Diego and St. Louis and will play the second game of the double header tonight.
