- Updated: September 19, 2018
The Los Angeles Clippers have not been shy lately about their pursuit of the next star to lead the new wave team. With their “publicly secret” pursuit of forward Kawhi Leonard after he mentioned interest in returning to his hometown this offseason, it looks like another NBA star has interest in the new look team.
Minnesota’s Jimmy Butler has three preferred destinations for a trade, league sources tell ESPN: The Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks. Those three teams have max cap space to sign Butler as a free agent in July.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler has solidified himself as one of the best players in the league in recent years and would certainly be a solid cornerstone for the Clippers to build around moving forward. The 29-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent next offseason and is looking for a new long-term home.
Averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists on the offensive end last season, Butler played a lead role in the Timberwolves getting back to the playoffs for the first time since 2004. The guard is more than an offensive threat however as he managed 2.0 steals per game as well.
The rumor mill will continue to swirl as Butler fans the flame on his happiness with his current team. One thing that’s for sure is if Butler is indeed interested in coming to Los Angeles then the Clippers will definitely be kicking the tires to see if they can get a deal done with Minnesota.
