Black is the former longtime manager of the San Diego Padres. He was fired early last season after the club started off slowly.
Black was expected to be the Washington Nationals new manager before contract negotiations broke down. The Nationals ended up going with Dusty Baker.
Black was actually the pitching coach for the Halos from 2000-2006. He won a World Series with the club in 2002.
The Los Angeles Dodgers also considered Black for the job. They have now turned their attention to Gabe Kapler or Dave Roberts.
