BREAKING: Lakers Acquire Anthony Davis
- Updated: June 15, 2019
After six seasons of missing the playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers might have found their way to get back to the postseason. Just moments ago, the team has announced that they have reached an agreement to acquire three-time All-Star Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart.
New Orleans will also receive three first-round draft picks including this year’s fourth overall pick form the Lakers in next week NBA draft.
Davis will get his wish to play alongside Lebron James and Kyle Kuzma and several sources are indicated that free agent point guard Kimba Walker, swingman Jimmy Butler, and even Kyrie Irving could be the next priority on the Lakers wish list. This deal will be finalized on July 6.
Davis requested a trade to the Lakers in January, after informing the Pelicans that he would not resign with the team. Davis plans to play the upcoming season with the Lakers should sign a long-term contract next summer when he becomes a free agent.
This trade was good for both teams, the Lakers will get another NBA superstar to add to their brand of excellence and in hopes, this playoff drought will end. New Orleans will get Brandon Ingram a player that needs a smaller market to excel in. Josh Hart is a player with a tremendous upside that can be a solid player in this league. Lonzo Ball like Ingram needed to be in another market to find his worth in the league. Both teams should be excited about this deal, but the Lakers needed this trade badly to erase some of the problems from the past several months in their front office.
