Breaking Down The Padres Early Success

San Diego is off to their best start in years. San Diego Padres is currently 6-4 in their first ten games this season. In the Opening Series, San Diego won three out of four games, against the Giants. San Diego would continue the homestand with a win against Arizona in a three-game series. After finishing the week at 4-3, San Diego kicked off their road trip with a series win in St. Louis. While the sample size is small, there have been a number of encouraging contributions. Those contributions have come from both offense and defense.

One key factor to note is how good players have been coming off the bench. San Diego has  already hit a couple of pinch-hit home runs this season. Another factor for the Padres success in third baseman Manny Machado. Machado at one point had a stretch where he reached base safely in seven consecutive plate appearances. If San Diego can manage to improve their on-base percentage this year, they could open up some eyes in the National League West.

As for the San Diego rotation, they have done a nice job of limiting the opposing offense. If the Padres young can maintain at this level for most of the season, San Diego will finish above .500. The Padres bullpen has also done a nice job so far. Closer Kirby Yates already has 5 saves this year. With other teams in the division struggling out of the gate, the Padres need to take advantage of it. As of right now, the Padres future is showing some good signs this season.
