The Black Mamba Is Human

Is this the Kobe Bryant (aka Black Mamba) that we’ll see from now on? Sitting at the end of the bench dressed in street clothes, while his body recuperates from previous back to backs. We saw it happen while Kobe sat three straight games against, Golden State, the Chicago Bulls, and the Dallas Mavericks.

Coach Byron Scott is very keen on the idea of having Kobe Bryant rest more and cutting down his minutes after back to backs, or when he feels Kobe Bryant needs to miss a game or two, he’ll make that decision. From latimes.com:

“I would like for you to sit out a couple of games,’ I had to always go back to, ‘You know how much I love you, you know how much I care for you, you know I’ve always got your best interests at heart,'” the Lakers coach said, Then I had to hit him with, ‘I think you need to sit down a couple of games.”

We’ve seen from the previous three games that Coach Scott will not hesitate to make that choice for Kobe Bryant. This is a very new feeling to Laker fans. The whole sit and rest thing isn’t what we envisioned. LakerNation knew that the day would come where Kobe was going to eventually drift off into the sunset, but never acknowledged it was so close by and now the proof is in the pudding.

How is father time doing this to our once indestructible Kobe Bryant? The same Kobe Bryant who played with several injuries, from knee injuries, knee surgeries, shin injuries, shoulder sprains, fractures in his shooting hand, the list goes on. The same Kobe Bryant who played the whole 2010 season with a fracture index finger on his shooting hand while capturing his 5th title.

There are many moments that we may reminisces on about Kobe’s once, Man of Steel body, but reality is hitting in and yet again father time proving that age will catch up to anyone including our beloved Kobe Bryant.

We should all take a moment to appreciate and remember what Kobe would endure and play through. What now, most NBA players would excessively rest, Bryant didn’t. Hopefully this also lets our younger Los Angeles Laker fans, and fans in general get an idea on why Bryant sitting games is such a big deal. Thank you, much love and appreciation Kobe Bean Bryant.
