A’s Score In The 9th Beat Padres 6-5

The Oakland A’s used Eric Sogard single in the 9th inning to beat the Padres 6-5. On a day in which the Padres announced Pat Murphy as their interim manager for the season they were unable to give the skipper his first win.
For the Padres Andrew Cashner got the start. He pitched 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 5 runs. He also struck out 3 and walked 3 and picked a no decision.
On the other hand Scott Kazmir got the start for the A’s. He also pitched 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out 6 and walked 1 and also got a no decision.
The Padres got on the board first in the 3rd inning. Austin Hedgers hit a solo shot to left field that gave the Padres a 1-0 lead.
Clint Barmes reached on a bunt single in the 4th inning that brought Melvin Upton to score. This gave the Padres a 2-0 advantage.
In the 5th inning Scott Kazmir got the A’s on the board. He reached on an infield single that brought in Max Muncy and cut the lead to 2-1. Billy Burns followed with a 2-run triple that scored Sam Fuld and Kazmir. Upton scored on a balk to tie the game at 3-3.
In the 6th inning Ben Zobrist hit a 2-run shot in the 6th inning that brought in Josh Reddick and the A’s retook the lead at 5-3.
In the 8th inning the Padres answered back with 2 runs including a Matt Kemp home run. Craig Kimbrel came on in the 9th and allowed a RBI single from Sogard and the A’s beat the Padres 6-5.
The Padres and A’s will continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. PST
