Angels Rock Sonny Gray, Win 9-4

OAKLAND, Ca- The Los Angeles of Anaheim took on the Oakland Athletics this afternoon and jumped on Sonny Gray early as they went on to win 9-4. Today’s game was a fun event on the radio, the first ever Social Media Day where fans tuned in and tweeted at the Angels radio crew throughout the game.
For the Halos Andrew Heaney got the start. He pitched 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs. He stuck out 6 as he picked up his 6th win of the year.
On the other side the A’s sent Gray to the bump. He pitched just 5 innings allowing 8 hits and 6 runs. He stuck out 2 and walked 1. This was his 7th loss of the season.
The Halos jumped on Gray early. Kole Calhoun scored off a wild pitch in the 1st inning to get things going. David Murphy followed with a RBI single to right that brought in Mike Trout.
C.J. Cron continued the action with a groundout to short that brought in Albert Pujols, and David Freese followed with a RBI single that scored Murphy. This gave the Halos a 4-0 advantage heading into the bottom half of the inning.
The A’s responded right away when Danny Valencia hit a RBI single to right field that brought in Brett Lawrie. Josh Phegley delivered a 2-run shot to center field, his 8th of the season and just like that the A’s were down 4-3.
In the 2nd inning Pujols hit a 2-run shot, his 35th of the year and number 555 of his career tying slugger Manny Ramirez for 14th on the All-time homerun list. This gave the Angels a 6-3 lead.
In the 8th inning Cron hit a RBI double that scored Collin Cowgill. Fresse followed with a infield single that scored Cron and the Halos lead grew to 8-3.
Lawrie hit a solo shot to left in the 8th inning. It was his 15th of the year and cut the Angels lead to 8-4.
Albert Pujols reached on a fielder’s choice that brought in Calhoun and the Halos beat the A’s 9-4.
The Angels will be off tomorrow before they open up their next series with the Texas Rangers in the Big A on Friday night.
