Angels Rally Comes Up Short In Houston

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim scored four runs in the ninth inning but it wasn’t enough to beat the Houston Astros on Monday night as they fell 10-7.

For the Angels Jhoulys Chacin got the start. He last just two innings allowing 6 hits and 6 runs, 5 earned. He walked 5 and struckout 1 as he picked up his 5th loss of the year.

On the other side Doug Fister got the start. He pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs. He walked 2 and struckout 5 as he picked up his 8th win of the year.

Houston jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Carlos Correa grounded out to short but brought in George Springer. Colby Rasmus followed with a RBI single that brought in Marwin Gonzalez, and Carlos Gomez topped off the inning with a RBI single.

Houston was at it again the third inning. Gomez hit a RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. Luis Valbuena followed with a RBI double and Evan Gattis hit a RBI single to give the Astros a 6-0 lead after 3.

Jose Altuve hit a solo shot in the 4th inning and the Astros led the Angels by a touchdown.

Albert Pujols got the Angels on the board with a RBI double that brought Kole Calhoun in. C.J. Cron hit a RBI double of his own to cut the lead to 7-2.

In the bottom half of the inning the Astros answered back with a 2-run shot from Correa. His home run pushed the lead to 9-2. Jason Castro hit a solo home run in the 7th inning to push the lead to 10-2.

The Angels started to rally in the late innings. Johnny Giavotella hit a solo home run in the 8th inning. Gregorio Petit hit a grand slam in the 9th inning that brought in Cron, Daniel Nava, and Shane Robinson but that would be the end of the comeback.

Pat Neshek came on and got the final two outs to pick up his first save of the year. Anaheim and the Astros will pick up their series tonight at 5:10 p.m. PST
