Angels only need one run to beat White Sox, 1-0
- Updated: July 17, 2016
The Los Angeles Angels made it two wins in a row last night after they blanked the Chicago White Sox, 1-0.
The best pitching performance of the season was on display last night as Matt Shoemaker (W,5-9), dominated the Sox in a six-hit shutout, for the first ever complete game and shutout in his career thus far. Shoemaker also took down thirteen White Sox batters via the way of the strikeout, on one-hundred and fifteen pitches thrown.
The Angels looked good in their old-school throwback uniforms, wearing the pullover jerseys from the California Angels days. It had us thinking back to the days of Rod Carew and Nolan Ryan.
Mike Trout drove in the game’s only run in the bottom of the first inning, when he grounded out to second base, allowing Yunel Escobar to score from third.
The one-run lead managed to last all game, as the Halo’s pitching and defense were simply superb, as the team managed to keep the Sox off the scoreboard.
HALO’s DUGOUT:
White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier simply looked puzzled at the plate in this game. Frazier wasn’t able to connect on anything that Shoemaker threw at him, as he struck out three of four times he faced Shoemaker.
ANGELS ON DECK:
The Angels (39-52), will conclude their series with the White Sox, in search of their third-straight win, after the All-Star break. Jered Weaver (7-7, 5.27 ERA), will face the Sox
Jacob Turner (No Record), making his season debut for Chicago. The Halo’s are also looking for their fourth win of the season. The team needs this game to build some momentum for the next two series in which they will face the two teams from Texas, starting with the Rangers at home and a road trip to Houston to face the Astros.
