Angels Lose To White Sox, 2-1

@MLBONFOX

Limited offense and decent pitching effort goes to waste, describes this close one-run loss to the Chicago White Sox, 2-1.

Garrett Richards (L,0-3), had one of his better starts of the season. After 6.1 innings, he struck out six and giving up only four hits to the Sox. Richards made only one crucial mistake, in the bottom of the first inning, Tyler Saladino hit a one-out homer to left. Saladino came into this game with only four career home runs to credit.

The Angels made the game interesting in the top of the eight, when pinch-hitter Rafael Ortega, slapped a single to right, that scored Kole Calhoun and moved Johnny Giavotella to third. The rally ended when the team couldn’t bring Giavotella from third.

ANGELS DUGOUT:

One of the most exciting plays did happen in the top of the ninth, Mike Trout beat out a close play at first, on a bad throw from Todd Frazier at third. The ball ricocheted off the Sox first-baseman Jerry Sands and into right field. Trout, who was rounding first, slipped, fell and got up and hustled to second, but was gunned down by Sands, just short of the second base bag. This play failed to get the runner into scoring position and a chance for the tying run to cross on a base hit by Pujols. Pujols grounded out to Sox closer Dave Robertson, for the final out of the game.

HALOS ON DECK:

The final game of the series will be played tomorrow afternoon in Chicago. Los Angeles (6-9), will try to even the series with the Chi-Sox. Jered Weaver (1-0, 4.35 ERA) will face the White Sox John Danks (0-2,7.94 ERA). The Angels are currently in third place in the American League West, 2.5 games behind the Texas Rangers.
