Angels Lose To A’s, 4-1
- Updated: September 7, 2016
The Los Angeles Angels failed to capitalize on a great opportunity to move farther away from the American League West’s basement as they lose to the A’s in the finale, 4-1.
In a game, that seemed to slip away from the Angels the pitching just wasn’t there for them. Angels starter Alex Meyer (L,0-1), only pitched 3-1/3 innings. On sixty-eight pitches, Meyer allowed only one run on one hit. He managed to strike out five A’s batters but gave up four walks. His counterpart, Jharel Cotton (W,1-0), struck out three in six innings of work. His only mistake was a solo home run to C.J. Cron in the top of the seventh inning. The win for Cotton was the first in his major league career.
The Halos offense only had two hits, the homer by Cron and single by Andrelton Simmons, as the team was unable to get into any rhythm against the A’s rookie pitcher.
HALOS DUGOUT:
Who is this guy? you just have to give the A’s credit, for the job they did in this game. As a September call-up, Jharel Cotton could make an impact on the A’s pitching staff over the next few weeks of the season.
ANGELS ON DECK:
The Angels (62-77), will be coming home, to start a three-game series against the Texas Rangers on Friday night. Tyler Skaggs (3-3, 4.71 ERA) will take the mound for the Halos. Yu Darvish (5-4, 3.45 ERA), will be the starter for the Rangers in Anaheim. The A’s are now two games behind the Angels for fourth place in the division.
