The Los Angeles Angels used 5 home runs tonight to beat the Detroit Tigers 8-6. Although the city of Anaheim isn’t pleased with the result of the Ducks, they can be happy about the power outage in the big A.
For the Angels Jered Weaver got the start. He pitched 6.1 innings allowing 9 hits and 3 runs. He walked 3 and struck out 3 as well in his outing. He picked his 4th win of the season.
On the other hand Shane Greene had a night he’s going to want to forget. He lasted just 1.2 innings allowing 6 hits and 7 runs.
The offense started early for the Halos. Mike Trout hit a solo shot to center, his 12th of the year. Kole Calhoun followed with solo shot to right and the Angels took an early 2-0 lead.
In the 2nd inning Yoenis Cespedes joined the home run parade with one of his own. His solo blast cut the lead to 2-1.
Matt Joyce and Carlos Perez answered in the bottom half of the inning with 2 solo shots of their own to give the Angels the 4-1 advantage. Albert Pujols added the exclamation mark in the inning with a 3-run blast that scored Efren Navarro and Trout. The Halos held a 7-1 advantage heading to the 3rd inning.
Miguel Cabrera hit a RBI double in the 3rd inning that brought in Anthony Goose. This cut the lead to 7-2. Nick Castellanos hit a sacrifice fly in the 4th inning to right that brought in J.D. Martinez and trimmed the lead to 7-3.
Tyler Collins grounded out to the short stop in the 8th inning that brought in Cespedes. James McCann hit a RBI double to right that cut the Halos lead down to 7-5.
To gain some breathing room Perez hit a RBI double to left that brought in David Freese and gave the Halos a 8-5 lead.
Ian Kinsler hit a solo shot in the 9th and the Angels won 8-6. Huston Street picked up his 16th save of the year for the Angels.
The Angels and Tigers will conclude their series tomorrow night at 5:05 p.m. is the Big A.
