After two one-run close games, the Angels drop the final game to the Houston Astros, 5-3.
The Angels grabbed an early two-run lead after the second inning, but in the top of the third, the Astros scored four, three on Jose Altuve‘s three-run shot over the left-centerfield wall.
The two teams traded runs in the fifth and seventh innings to complete the scoring. Yunel Escobar‘s second homer of the game brought the team to within a single run at 4-3. In the top of the seventh inning, Evan Gattis gave the Astros some insurance on his third homer of the season. Matt Shoemaker (L,1-2), took the loss, allowing five earned runs, three walks and giving up two home runs.
The Angels without the services of their superstar Mike Trout, while he is dealing with a hamstring issue, he is expected for the next series with the A’s.
NEXT UP FOR THE ANGELS:
The Angels (16-17) are heading to the Bay Area, to start a three-game series with the Oakland A’s. Ricky Nolasco
(2-2, 4.68 ERA) will take the mound in the first game. The A’s will send Kendall Graveman (2-2, 3.95 ERA). Anaheim is still in second place in the American League West, 5.5 games behind the Astros.
