Angels Can’t Hang With Twins, Fall 8-1

MINNEAPOLIS, Mn- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim looked to improve their playoff hopes when they took on the Minnesota Twins but failed to keep the ball in the yard and fell to 8-1.
For the Angels Matt Shoemaker lasted just 3.2 innings. He allowed 6 hits and 4 runs. He walked 2 and struck out 1 and picked up his 10th loss of the season.
On the other side it was Tyler Duffey who got the start. He pitched 7 strong innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1. For his efforts he was awarded his 4th win of the year.
The Twins used the long ball to win this afternoon. Torii Hunter hit a solo home run to left field in the 2nd inning. It was his 21st of year and gave the Twins a 1-0.
Eddie Rosario followed with a home run of his own in the 3rd inning. His 2-run shot brought in Aaron Hicks and pushed the lead to 3-0. For Rosario that was his 11th bomb of the season.
The Twins were at it again in the 4th inning. Hicks hit a RBI single that brought in Eduardo Nunez and pushed the lead to 4-0. With the bases loaded Nunez drew a walk that brought in Hunter. Hicks followed with a walk of his own and after 5 the Twins led 6-0.
Joe Mauer got in on the action in the 8th inning with a 2-run shot of his own. It was his 9th of the year and the Twins held a 8-0 advantage.
Jeff Brandy hit a pinch hit home run in the 9th inning to put the Angels on the board. It was his first career home run and hit. The Angels fell 8-1.
The Halos will travel to Houston for a big series against the Astros tomorrow night. Jered Weaver and Dallas Keuchel are the projected starters.
