Angels Blank Tigers, 7-0
- Updated: May 14, 2017
The Los Angeles Angels were very impressive last night, blanking the Detroit Tigers 7-0, in the second game of a four-game weekend series.
The Angels had their way with the Tigers pitching staff, roughing up Tigers starter Jordan Zimmerman (L,3-2) for five runs (four earned), in only 5-1/3 innings.
Angels first baseman Louis Valbuena took Zimmerman deep to start the scoring in the bottom of the second inning.
Welcome back, Mike Trout! In his first game back from a nagging hamstring injury, Trout connected on a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning for the final exclamation point of the game.
Matt Shoemaker (W,2-2), looked dominate throughout the game. In six innings, three hits, seven strikeouts, and only one walk and another quality start for the Angels pitching staff.
NEXT UP FOR THE HALOS:
Game three will feature Ricky Nolasco (2-2 4.31 ERA), for the Halos and Daniel Norris (2-2 4.55 ERA) for the Tigers. The Halos (18-20) are still in second place in the American League West, eight games behind the Houston Astros.
