Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun dominated in the eighth for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and it was their homers that sealed the deal to win 5-4 against the Oakland A’s.
As for more eighth inning goings ons, Jose Alvarez pitched a perfect inning. Huston Street had three outs for his 18th save in just 20 attempts, which also included retiring Josh Reddick on a fly ball to center on his 26th pitch of the ninth.
Reddick pushed the A’s ahead in the seventh with a two run shot against Fernando Salas. But it was Evan Scribner who served up Mike Trout’s 18th of the season leading off the eighth. ESPN.com reports, “Albert Pujols put on a towering fly to the warning track in left before Calhoun drove a 1-0 pitch deep into the seats in right for his sixth of the season. It was the fourth lead change of the game.”
Trout also led off the sixth with a single, and Pujols echoed with a double, and Calhoun then drove them both in with a single up the middle on Chavez’s next pitch.
Tonight was the second time this season that an opposing team has gone back to back against the Angels.
The Angels and Oakland A’s are back at it tomorrow at 7:05 p.m
