Albert Pujols Stays Hot Angels Win 8-2

Albert Pujols hit his 16th home run of the season and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-2. After being swept by the New York Yankees this was a great bounce back win for the Halos.

Matt Shoemaker got the start for the Angels. He pitched 6.1 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 6 and walked 1 as well. This was his 4th win of the year.

On the other hand Nathan Karns got the start for the Rays. He pitched 5.2 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs. He struck out 4 and walked 2. This was his 3rd loss of the year.

The Angels started fast pushing 2 runs across in the 1st inning. Kole Calhoun hit a RBI single to right field that scored Erick Aybar. Carlos Perez followed by reaching on an error by 3rd baseman Jake Elmore that allowed Calhoun to score and the Angels lead 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 1st.

It was the Angels at it again in the 3rd inning. David Freese hit a RBI double to right field that brought in Pujols and pushed the lead to 3-0. Pujols hit a solo blast to right in the 5th inning that gave the Halos a 4-0 advantage.

Calhoun hit a RBI single to left in the 6th inning that brought in Mike Trout and heading into the bottom of the 6th the Angels lead 5-0.

The Rays finally got on board in the 6th. Joey Butler hit a 2-run double to center field that brought Rene Rivera and Kevin Kiermaier. This cut the lead to 5-2.

The Halos offense wasn’t done however. In the 8th inning Calhoun hit a 2-run single to push the score to 7-2. Taylor Featherstone came on and hit a RBI double that pushed the lead to 8-2.

Fernando Salas strikeout 2 in his 2/3 inning of work. Jose Alvarez and Cam Bedrosian each pitched 1 inning of scoreless baseball in their relief efforts.

The Angels and Rays will continue their series tomorrow night in Tampa, Florida at 4:10 p.m. PST
