MINNEAPOLIS, MN- Adrian Peterson is back ladies and gentlemen as the Minnesota Vikings overwhelmed the San Diego Chargers 31-14 on Sunday afternoon.
The Chargers came into today’s game looking to rebound off of last week’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. However, injuries were not on the Bolts’ side today.
The Vikings got on the board first with a 24 yard field goal by Blair Walsh. After the first quarter the Vikes led 3-0.
In the second quarter Peterson scored his first touchdown of the year, a 2-yard run that pushed the lead to 10-0. Peterson may of had some extra motivation as his son Axyl was born hours before game time. The Chargers answered back when Philip Rivers hit Keenan Allen for a 34 yard touchdown. Josh Lambo hit the extra point and heading into halftime the Bolts trailed 10-7.
The second half was all Vikings. Peterson took a 43 yard run to the house that got the fans off their feet. This pushed the lead to 17-7. Zach Line scored a touchdown at the end of the quarter that pushed the lead to 24-7.
At the start of the fourth quarter the Chargers moved the ball all the way to the red zone before Chad Greenway returned a 91 yard interception for a touchdown. The Chargers were able to score another touchdown before the game ended when Kellen Clemens connected with Philip Rivers for a touchdown.
Rivers connected on 21/34 passes for 246 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Melvin Gordon rushed for 51 yards on 14 carries. Allen was the bright spot for the Chargers offense as he had 12 catches for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns. Eric Weddle lead the way on defense with 8 tackles.
The Chargers will try to rebound as they take on the Cleveland Browns next Sunday in San Diego.
