A Look Ahead For The San Diego Chargers

@ChargersRHenne

With the San Diego Chargers are preparing for their offseason they took on Sunday afternoon against the Kansas City Chiefs, the season has been full of high’s and low’s and the team has been compared to the best under .500 team in the league to one of the most mysterious. Last weekend’s loss to the Cleveland Browns had to be one of the worst moments for this team this season.

As the season comes to a close, let’s focus on what the team needs to improve for next season.

The team has been plagued with injuries in all phases. When Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead, and Brandon Oliver all suffered season-ending injuries, the backups were able to fill their roles and contribute to the team. Tyrell Williams, Dontrelle Inman, and Melvin Gordon all gave the team a big lift when needed. Gordon had a very surprising season, and before his injury, he had turned a subpar rookie season into a better sophomore campaign, leading the team in rushing and scoring a team-best ten touchdowns on the ground. Both Williams and Inman quickly became the new favorite targets of quarterback Philip Rivers. Another rookie tight end Hunter Henry made a name for himself filling in for Antonio Gates when needed. The offensive line has played well despite being banged up all season. King Dunlap and D.J. Fluker has managed to keep this group together all season long.

The defense has played very well with the loss of several stars leaving in free agency. Casey Hayward has been a very bright spot in the defensive backfield. Hayward leads the NFL in interceptions. Joey Bosa leads the team in sacks after he settled the dust with the team’s management.

In closing the team is facing so much adversity in the upcoming season in 2017. There’s still a very unclear path on where this team will call home. The voters in November shot down two separate initiatives for a new stadium and the roar of the possibility of the team calling Los Angeles home is getting louder as the season comes to a close. Next season should be better for the Chargers, the team will have players back from injury, Allen will be back to be a steady 1,000-yard receiver. The season hasn’t been a success, but the maybe a change isn’t a terrible thing.
