Leonard edged out Draymond Green for the award and DeAndre Jordan finished in third for the award. Doc Rivers had been lobbying for Jordan to win the award due to his impressive rebounding totals and blocked shots.
Jordan did lead the NBA in rebounds this season but that wasn’t enough to win the award. Reggie Miller a southern California native praised Leonard for the award via Twitter.
Congrats to Kawhi Leonard, the pride of the IE (Riverside) for DPOY.. You have done Riverside well my friend..

Arash Markazi of ESPN.com voiced his opionions on the award via Twitter.
I thought Jamal Crawford missing 18 games really hurt him in the 6th Man race. It didn’t have much of an effect at all for Kawhi Leonard.

He went on to say.
The difference in how many scouts and coaches view DeAndre Jordan against many writers and reporters who vote for DPOY is fascinating.

Markazi ended with this interesting fact.
How many awards will Kawhi Leonard win before being named to his first All-Star team? Finals MVP, DPOY…
