Dodgers Lose Close Game to Reigning Champs

The Los Angeles Dodgers geared up for their second of three matches against the current World Series champion San Francisco Giants. The significance of this match was registered early on with both teams ace’s facing off. When you have the 3x Cy Young winner and current NL MVP Clayton Kershaw taking the mound versus the World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner, the entire MLB stops to take notice. The two lefties certainly did not disappoint. It was clear that Clayton Kershaw came to play when he started the game with this defensive shocker here: http://m.mlb.com/lad/video/topic/8878826/v84862083/?c_id=la

Both LHP gave their all up on the mound this Wednesday evening and their portion of the game ended in a virtual draw considering the score was 2-2. It appeared that Madison was going to take the advantage because in the top of the 7th inning the score was 2-0 in the Giants favor. This is where we insert Dodgers 3B Alex Guerrero to hit his 2nd pinch-hitting HR of the young season. In Bumgarner’s defense, he had kept the Dodgers scoreless until that moment, and had already reached a total of 109 pitches. However, Alex Guerrero is 3-for-6 pinch hitting this season, and 2 of those are HR’s. The kid might just have a knack for this sort of thing. Check out the game tying HR from Alex Guerrero here: http://m.mlb.com/lad/video/topic/8878826/v85164083/?c_id=la

If there’s anything else that Dodgers fans should take away from this game, other than the fact that we just can’t win them all, is that Puig seems to be back and healthy. He was sidelined for sporadically for the last few games dealing with what the training staff called “hamstring tightness.” It’s unclear whether Yasiel Puig needed a warm compress, a good stretch, or a talented masseuse to help out with his hamstring issue. What is clear, however, is that he wouldn’t let this minor hurdle have a negative effect on his gameplay. Check out Puig proving he was back to 100% with this dazzling catch early in the game

The Dodgers are 0-2 in this series and will face off against the Giants one more time, early tomorrow afternoon, to avoid getting swept in this series. Thursday’s matchup will mark the 2,253rd regular season matchup between these two clubs since 1901. That happens to be the most any two organizations have competed in the MLB. Dodgers’ newcomer Mike Bolsinger is expected to get the start versus Giants RHP Ryan Vogelsong. I refuse to make a bad pun about how their names are singer and song, and how the Dodgers need to march to the tune of victory. The game is slated to start at 12:45pm at AT&T Park on April 23rd, 2015.
