Lakers Granted Disabled Player Exception

According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com the Los Angeles Lakers have been granted the Disabled Player Exception.

Lakers, I’m told, have been granted a Disabled Player Exception after losing Julius Randle for the season worth nearly $1.5 million

The exception for the Lakers was granted after the season ending leg injury that rookie Julius Randle suffered on opening night. To read more about the injury click here.

Marc Stein also reported the deadline the Lakers will have to use the 1.5 million.

Lakers will have until March 10 to use the exception to either sign a player or claim one off waivers in the $1.5 million range

$1.5 million is nearly half the salary Randle is set to make this season. It will be interesting to see who the Lakers will pursue with this money. The Lakers are also weighing their options about filing for a player exception of Steve Nash as well.

Nash was ruled out for the season right before the Lakers opened the season. For more information on Nash’s injury click here.

The Lakers will most likely try to trade Nash and his $9.7 million dollar contract in the hope of landing some type of support. While the Lakers are coming off their first win of the season they hope to keep up the momentum as they travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies on Tuesday night.
