Padres Use Big Offensive Night to Beat Giants 10-2

The San Diego Padres used a big night from their bats to beat the San Francisco Giants 10-2 tonight. In a series that has featured a lot of great pitching tonight it was the offense that stole the show.
For the Giants Madison Bumgarner got the start and he had a game he will like to forget. He lasted just three innings allowing 10 hits, 5 runs while striking out 4. Ryan Vogelsong came on for Bumgarner and didn’t do much better. He pitched 3.2 innings allowing 9 hits, 4 runs, while striking out 2.
For the Padres James Shields out was completely opposite. He pitched 7 strong innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 7. Frank Garces and Brandon Maurer each pitched an inning in relief.
Justin Upton got things going for the Padres when he hit an RBI single that scored Matt Kemp. Will Middlebrooks followed with RBI single that Upton and the Padres an early 2-0 lead.
In the 3rd inning Derek Norris hit an RBI single that scored Yangervis Solarte. Middlebrooks hit another RBI single that scored Upton again, and Jedd Gyorko hit a RBI single that scored Norris as part of a 3 run 3rd inning. Heading into the 4th the Padres were up 5-0.
In the 4th the Giants got on the scoreboard. Joaquin Arias hit a solo shot to left to cut into the Padres lead 5-1.
The offensive action picked back up in the sixth inning when Wil Meyers hit a RBI single that scored Clint Barmes. Kemp then reached on an infield single that scored Shields, and Upton hit a sacrifice fly that brought Myers in. This was all part of another three run inning and the Padres controlled the game up 8-1.
In the 7th inning the Padres were at it again. This time Myers hit a RBI double to left which scored Will Venable. Solatare followed up with an RBI single that scored Myers and gave the Padres a 10-1 lead.
In the 9th inning Justin Maxwell hit an RBI double to left field that scored Nori Aoki and the game ended with a final of 10-2.
Tomorrow afternoon the Padres will take on the Giants in the final game of the series.
